Let's Draw a Portrait Drawing !! ~*
Let's Draw a Portrait from an old photograph from the late
19th Century ~*
we don't know his name, but we know he lived in some
part of Wisconsin, maybe Milwaukee, during the 1890's ~*
we will give him new notoriety with our Portrait of him ~*
we will bring him alive again in this time and for all time
by immortalizing him with the Magic of Art ~*
and for his background, we will compose this old
building, this Oyster~House ~*
the sign says Oysters, Ice Cream, Lemonade ~*
this will make a stunning and profoundly beguiling Work
of Art !! ~*
let's get started !! ~*
first, we take a Canvas which already has a Portrait
Painted on it so we can do an Over~Paint which will give
our Portrait of this Wisconsin Fellow an added
significance and mystery and mystique` ~*
we begin by pouring a big, white blob of Studio Gesso
onto the Canvas to cover over the existing Portrait ~*

then we rub it all over the 30x40 inch Canvas so we will have a
clean slate on which to begin our new Portrait ~*

then, once we have thoroughly and completely covered over the entire
Canvas so that none of the old Portrait shows through, we take the
Canvas to the kitchen to let it dry ~*
with all this Holiday Cooking, baking pies and cakes and hams and
turkeys, it will be warm and dry in the kitchen so our newly gesso
primed Canvas will dry faster ~*
and we want it to dry fast too, because we can hardly wait to start our
new Portrait of our Mystery Man from Somewhere Wisconsin !! ~*

now that our Canvas is dry and ready, we shall begin by laying
out a faint outline of our figure which is the subject of our
Portrait ~*
so let's take a close look at the old photograph of him so we
can get an idea of what we need to do ~*

now let's look at our background scenery photograph ~*

OK, now we are ready to start Drawing !! ~*
just a faint outline at first; we can reinforce our lines later
when we have everything laid out ~*
a faint life~size outline using a series of short marks, loosely
joined together to form an over~all rough sketch of our
figure ~*

AWESOME !! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
this is so exciting !! ~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

now that we have a rough sketch worked out with faint lines,
we can begin to refine our Drawing and reinforce the parts we
know we have right ~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

isn't this incredible !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

it's like the way totally most fun we ever had !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~*
now let's bring some other regions of our Mystery Man from
Somewhere Wisconsin into focus ~* ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

WHEW !! that's a lot of work !! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
this looks like a good place to take a break and reflect upon
